How long
have you been in the business?
Shawnn Monteiro:
I have been
singing professionally (receiving a paycheck) for ....dare I say
it.....40 years.
RIMC:
Who inspires or influences you musically?
Shawnn Monteiro:
My Father,
the late Jimmy Woode, bassist, was my greatest influence. Also, Clark
Terry, Carmen McRae and Sarah Vaughn. Marvin Gaye for R&B.
RIMC:
What would your fans be surprised to know about you?
Shawnn Monteiro:
My fans
would be surprised to know that I love to crochet and knit.
RIMC:
What CDs are you personally
listening to now?
Shawnn Monteiro:
Right now I'm
listening to a few CDs. Tony Bennet Duets, Carmen (McRae) Sings Monk
and Robin Thicke. (His FIRST album that I picked up in London about 4
or 5 years ago.)
RIMC: What
movie would you say could be your life story?
Shawnn Monteiro:
A
combination of a few movies: Dreamgirls, Singin' In the Rain, Babes
in Arms and Imitation of Life.
RIMC:
Who are your favorite local artists?
Shawnn Monteiro:
My
favorite local artist/s is you (my baby sister Lysa Davis), of course,
Rebecca Paris, John Harrison and the late great Clay Osborne.
RIMC:
What’s
your favorite food?
Shawnn Monteiro:
Favorite food is
Lobster, without a doubt. Barbecued Ribs are a close second.
RIMC:
What other talents do you have?
Shawnn Monteiro: I
play congas, timbales and drums. I tap dance. I crochet and knit.
I'm a good Mom and Grandmom.
RIMC:
What do you do or what gets you in the mood before you perform?
Shawnn Monteiro:
A good
glass of chardonnay!
RIMC:
What has been your most embarrassing moment?
Shawnn Monteiro:
When I was
singing in Las Vegas at the Hilton, my haulter strap broke and my
"girls" popped out in front of about 1000 people.
RIMC:
What has been your proudest moment in life so far?
Shawnn Monteiro:
Being a
Mom, and performing and recording with my Dad.
RIMC:
If you ever won an American Music Award, who would you thank and why?
Shawnn Monteiro:
I would
thank my Husband, Raymond Huelbig and Son,
Will
Gaines (G3)
for their
support, all the musicians I have worked with and most of all my Dad.
